Showing off a decadent rapper chain or two has been a key part of the rap world for decades. And, much like rappers themselves, these chains just wouldn’t be hip-hop if they weren’t outrageous.
Always keen to one-up each other with the loudest, heaviest or most expensive chains, rappers have shown off some original and highly memorable medallions over the years.
Here are ten of the craziest rapper chains to have graced the necks of our favorite hip-hop stars.
1. Kanye West – Horus Chain
Featuring a medallion of the Egyptian deity Horus, Kanye’s $300K chain is worth an honorable mention for sheer size alone. The name Horus translates as ‘the one far above,’ which is fitting for Kanye’s supersized ego.
2. Takeoff – Solar System Chain
Takeoff and his fellow Migos members have taken the world by storm the last few years. So, it’s only natural that one of them would have designs on the solar system. The $500k chain features a spaceship with the ‘YRN’ insignia as well as diamond-soaked planets and stars.
3. Drake – OVO Owl Chain
Everything Drake touches turns to gold, so he decided to treat himself to a colorful owl chain in honor of his brand OVO. The 40-karat Hermes link chain features yellow, white, and blue diamonds and cost the Toronto rapper $120k.
4. Lil Uzi Vert – Marilyn Manson Chain
With a moniker that’s said to be a play on the name Lucifer, Lil Uzi Vert is a rapper that’s more in-tune with his dark side than most. So, it might not come as a surprise that one of his boldest hip hop chains is inspired by goth legend Marilyn Manson.
5. Rick Ross – Chain of Himself Wearing a Chain
Not content with the simple chain of himself he used to sport, Rick Ross went one step further and splashed out on a chain of himself wearing a chain of himself. Talk about meta.
6. Slick Rick – Justice Scale Chain
As the king of rapper jewelry, Slick Rick was rocking cool chains worth an even cooler quarter of a million way back in the mid-80s. His trademark piece is a gold medallion the size of a plate, featuring the scales of justice.
7. Quavo – Ratatouille Chain
In reference to Quavo’s lyrics in Migos’ 2017 number one ‘Bad and Boujee’, the rapper splashed out on a chain featuring himself in the style of Disney’s Ratatouille. Needless to say, the chain-version of Quavo is also sporting a few hip hop chains too.
8. Mick Jones – Ice Age Chain
Mick Jone’s ‘Ice Age’ chain might just be the most expensive chain ever seen around a rapper’s neck. Mick Jones isn’t such a player now, but back in the day, he was able to drop a cool million on this diamond-encrusted medallion.
9. A$AP Ferg – Yamborghini Chain
A$AP Ferg had his ‘Yamborghini’ chain made in honor of the late A$AP Yams. The piece is inspired by the Lamborghini logo and features 65-carat white diamonds.
10. T-Pain – Big Ass Chain
Drenched in 200 karats of diamonds, T-Pain’s famous ‘Big Ass Chain’ chain is almost as expensive as it is ridiculous. While we’re not sure we’d pay the $400k price tag, it’s worth a place on the list as a guaranteed talking point.
The Craziest Rapper Chains Ever
There’s no denying that rapper chains have really set the bar high when it comes to crazy jewelry. But, as crazy as their ice might be, these rappers all know that original and outrageous chains are a sure-fire way to get noticed.
